Undergraduate International Admissions Process
All Undergraduate International Students

First-Year Students

Transfer Students
- Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
- Transcript evaluation (WES or NACES member)
- Completed at least 15 semester hours, including:
- English composition
- Mathematics (pre-calculus is required for most majors)
- Science (chemistry and/or physics required for some majors)

During our admission process, we closely review your specific academic background and particular educational system in order to make the best possible admission decisions. Our evaluation includes consideration of the factors below.
Academic Preparation
All first-year students who apply to NJIT must submit an official high school transcript in English. When evaluating your application for undergraduate admission, we are interested in understanding how you challenged yourself relative to the curriculum that was available at your school and the trends in your performance—especially your grades in math, science and English.
Your completed coursework should include English Composition, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Chemistry and Physics. We also consider the GPA (Grade Point Average) that is indicated on your high school transcript. We generally look for students in the top 25% of their class. For schools that don't use a ranking system, we consider a 3.0 GPA or higher to be the equivalent.

SAT/ACT
Test-Optional Admission Policy for Fall 2025
First-year students applying to Fall 2025 can opt to not submit SAT and/or ACT scores. This does not apply to Albert Dorman Honors College or accelerated program applicants.
Students who have taken the SAT or ACT are encouraged to submit test scores to be considered for scholarships. However, students who do not submit scores will be considered for scholarships.
Standardized Test Scores and Information
Average composite SAT score for our enrolling first-year class is 1285 (Math and Critical Reading).
Average ACT score for our enrolling first-year class is 26.
Submitting Scores
We will consider either the SAT or ACT and use the highest scores provided, even if they are not from your most recent testing.
We recommend you send us all of your official scores as soon as possible, or no later than the time you test, to avoid missing a deadline.

TOEFL/IELTS/DUOLINGO/PTE
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Duolingo or Pearson Test of English (PTE) is required of all applicants whose first language is not English. The minimum score required is 79 for the internet-based TOEFL exam, 213 for the computer-based TOEFL exam, 550 for the paper TOEFL exam, 6.0 for the IELTS exam, 100 for the Duolingo exam or 53 for the PTE exam.
Applicants with degrees from institutions in the following countries qualify for an exemption of the English proficiency requirement, so they do not have to submit a TOEFL/IELTS/DUOLINGO/PTE exam score as part of their application for admission:
